King of the Castle

The VAG Legends crew packed a stunning Belgian castle venue with 250 of Europe’s finest water-cooled builds for another epic weekend with friends.

By now, the VAG Legends folks have well and truly made a name for themselves. They started hosting shows only a few short years ago, but in that brief window, their name has become an absolute synonym for premium quality. It’s a reputation built on meticulous curation and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that money simply can’t buy. Naturally, their latest event didn’t disappoint.

Securing a fresh location for their main event this year meant the show turned out a bit different from last year… but it was no less epic! The venue didn’t move far from last year’s, actually. In fact, it was located just about twenty minutes down the road from last year’s spot. And keeping with tradition, it was another spectacular castle. Imagine having two grand show locations situated this close to each other. Talk about being spoiled for choice!

The backdrop for this year’s gathering was the Kasteeldomein van Leut: a historic estate that can trace back it’s roots to roughly the 13th or 14th century. While it’s medieval history runs deep, the neoclassical facade you see today was added in the 18th century. The estate is located just on the Belgian side of the Dutch – Belgian border. And we mean literally just a hop: just a few hundred meters away flows the river Maas, which marks the natural border between both countries.

‘We are happiest when our visitors are simply having a good time’ founder Dennis Geluck explained when we caught up with him

Once again Dennis Geluck, the visionary behind VAG Legends, and his hard-working team proved to have a knack for scouting the right location. About 250 carefully selected cars squeezed into the castle’s historic grounds. Due to the tight layout of the estate, the venue felt a bit more packed and a lot more energetic than last year’s showing at Kasteel Pietersheim. However, rather than feeling cramped, this tightly packed layout just made everything feel more cozy. The vibe was quite similar to last year, but even more laid back – a family gathering you actually love to attend. Crucially, the VAG Legends crew still stand by their core ethos to forego any trophies and such and instead put the social aspect into the foreground.

‘We are happiest when our visitors are simply having a good time’ founder Dennis Geluck explained when we caught up with him between chats. “When everyone is talking with each other, no one feels excluded, every car gets it’s own chance to shine and people are enjoying good food… that’s when we know we’ve down our job right.”

And the visitors did indeed have a phenomenal time. Every single person we spoke to over the weekend wound up praising the show for it’s friendly, laid back and welcoming atmosphere. For us, it was also a massive treat to see quite a few familiar Performance VW feature cars scattered throughout the mix, too!

With a relaxed pre-event on Saturday that went on well into the warm evening and the main show happening on Sunday, the VAG legends crew managed to deliver another epic weekend for VAG heads. We’re honestly a bit amazed at how they consistently pull this off without losing their minds – keeping this level of quality can’t be easy! It’s not the biggest show on the calendar, you certainly won’t see the highest volume of cars here, but boy do they manage to curate a flawless selection every time.

The most important aspect, however, remains the people. The team managed to bring together a brilliant mix of enthusiasts where everyone was instantly on the exact same wavelength. We’re missing the show already. Can we please just go back??

Don’t worry, we’ll get our fix soon enough: The VAG Legends crew are already working hard on their next event, so make sure to keep up with our mag because we certainly are not going to miss it!
