Welcome to the first Performance VW Build Thread! We’ll be inviting staff and sponsors to start and maintain a build thread about a project of their choice, just like in the days of forums. We’ll be using this post as a reference for others going forward, so be sure to let us know your thoughts!
Project Spaceship – Part 1
After a brief stint in a B8.5 A4, which I loved for the luxury feel but found lacking in power, I finally landed in a Mythos Black B9 S4. The itch to modify struck me before I even picked up the car, ordering a Carbnlabs intercooler and an 034 Motorsports Stage 1 ECU/TCU tune.
Other cosmetic mods that I added down the line included a carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber rear diffuser, smoked side markers, a color matched roof lip, and a carbon fiber/alcantara steering wheel.
Of course there was still that voice in the back of my head telling me to lower it. The way my driveway is, I’d never be able to get back in if it were lowered. But what if I could go higher and lower? I eventually caved, ordering an Airlift 3P kit from Bag Riders. My best friend and business partner at BooBuilt Performance & Styling, Devon, has been doing air ride installs for a long time, so we tackled the S4 next, bagging it over the course of a couple days.
With the suspension taken care of, the next logical step was some wheels. I picked up a set of 19×10 Rotiform LSRs in Candy Gloss Gold off Facebook Marketplace and refinished them. The fitment was dialed in with a bit of camber and stretch, and the end result was the wheels tucking perfectly when aired out.
So what’s next? This car is my ‘daily driver’, and while I don’t drive it daily thanks to being able to work from home, I do have a few plans for it. The trunk setup for the air ride is going to go through a major revision – I’ve had ideas floating around in my head for some time now – as well as a mounting solution for the controller that gives it an OEM feel.
Until next time!
